A little politics maybe?

Like we're all not tired of it all by now......sigh. Although, I gotta admit, I've been hooked on following every last bit of info I could find for well over a year now. It's taken me this long to make up my mind on whether I should even post anything political on my mural blog. I've been apprehensive to post anything regarding the current election for fear of alienating any potential clients. But you know what, it shouldn't be that way. And I'm going to post something about that down below. First things first......and that would be anything art-related, which is what this blog is supposed to be about.......

We voted last week. On a Saturday. We took our 8 year old daughter along. During the preliminary process before we actually got to fill out our ballots, an aide walked up and handed our daughter a coloring book and a small box of crayons that were created specifically for the elections. Cool...
It wasn't until we arrived back home, only a block away, that we noticed the crayon box. Check it out:-)

If it's too fuzzy for you to read, here's what it says.....
Obviously, the label, or title, says, "The American Crayon".
On the edge of the box, it says, "Made in Mexico"
OK....Mexico IS in America, I know. But you might think they could have contracted with Crayola to have these produced.......or not. We thought it was both funny and ironic.

Back to what I mentioned earlier about being apprehensive about posting on my blog, like I said, I don't think we should be afraid to announce who we support nor do I think we should tear down people that don't agree with our decision. Because once the election is over, we all have to live and work together. The current administration seems to have done a very good job of doing anything BUT uniting the country and especially it's politicians. This is only one of the reasons we decided to support Barack Obama. I believe that Peggy Noonan summed it up best, for me, when she wrote just last week.....

"The case for Barack Obama, in broad strokes:

He has within him the possibility to change the direction and tone of American foreign policy, which need changing; his rise will serve as a practical rebuke to the past five years, which need rebuking; his victory would provide a fresh start in a nation in which a fresh start would come as a national relief. He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. He rose with guts and gifts. He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and almost only area in which his executive abilities can be discerned, he shows good judgment in terms of whom to hire and consult, what steps to take and moves to make. We witnessed from him this year something unique in American politics: He took down a political machine without raising his voice." (I added the emphasis in that last line)

Here's hoping.......

I've been watching President Obama try really hard this week to begin to break down the party walls. From dinners, meetings, and now Superbowl parties, he is making more effort than any past President ever has to have both parties form some sort of an alliance to the citizens of the United States. But judging by their behavior this week, the Republicans seem to be talking out of both sides of their mouths.

Personally, the only time I really concern myself with someone's political party is prior to an election. That's because it matters whom I can vote for during the Primaries. But when the election is over, I don't care what the party affiliation is, that person is now my representative. He or she is supposed to represent me.

What I see going on in the House and the Senate this week shows me that President Obama should only extend his hand for so long, then he needs to get back on the bus and move on.

Like every other elected official, he needs to represent the American Public as a whole and not as individuals. We elected him because of what he said he was going to do. He just needs to do it - with or without our "representatives".

We did get change! Where is our freedom going. Its seems to me we should have more personal responsiblity. Even if our decisions aren't always correct ones, you learn from them and keep going. I fear government telling us where we can live, what we can eat, and who can get in to see this doctor or not. We dont need to throw more money at the problems.
